The Ram pump died again after getting frozen between hunting
season and the first trip of the new year. So I decided not to
rebuild it for the fourth time or replace any of the broken
pipes.
Instead
I've thought up a new approach. I want to mount a 110 Volt motor
driven water pump on the front of the Spring. I'll use some of
the 1/2" black plastic pipe going to the 35 gallon tank from the
Ram pump. This way there's very little plumbing involved.
We'll
just disconnect the output pipe from the Ram pump, drag the end back up
to the Spring and attach it to the output of the motor pump.
Attach a short length of plastic pipe to the pump inlet from the bottom
of the Spring reservoir with some sort of filter before keep out sand and stuff
like salamanders!
I'm going to put some kind of good filter
for the water inside the
camp. Maybe before the water goes into the tank or after the
water comes out of the tank to the faucet. There may not be
enough gravity flow for a filter after the tank. Which kind depends on
what is simplest to service and DRAIN WHEN IT FREEZES!
Here's
a proposed drawing of what I've worked up so far---this will
change a little as I get closer to a final design.
Here's a short
video of the first test of the pump using a closed loop in a 5
gallon bucket. This thing has a lot of pressure, it kicked the
outlet hose right out of the bucket so I had to tape the hose to
a vise grip clamped to the bucket. Click on the picture to start
